Sandler Wins Harvey St. Clair Award

Nat Sandler, M.D., Lexington, won this year's KPA Harvey R. St. Clair award. KPA created this award, naming it after the first winner, to recognize a KPA member who has generously given time and talents to the cause of organized psychiatry. Dr. Sandler is a past KPA president, a past Deputy Representative to the APA Assembly and currently serves as representative to the APA Assembly. He has been an active member of the KPA Council since 1986 serving in many capacities. He has also been an active member of the Kentucky Medical Association and the Fayette County Medical Society. He is a member of the clinical faculty at UK and has served as a mentor to many residents. He currently is employed by Bluegrass Comprehensive Care after many years in private practice.

Past winners of the award, established in 1994 are Drs. Leah Dickstein, John Bell, Myron Standifer, William Weitzel, John Schwab, Frank Gaines, and Gary Weinstein

Karippot a Repeat Winner

Anoop Karippot, a PGY IV at the University of Louisville, again won the Resident's Achievement Award. This award is given to a resident or fellow who has submitted a clinical or investigative paper of which he/she is the primary author. The Director of Residency Program must also endorse the candidate stating their clinical and academic performance. The candidate must also demonstrate commitment to the care of the mentally ill either by community service or education to the public. Dr. Karippot is currently the UL resident representative to the KPA Council. He served last year as one of two Chief Residents at UL. He has also been active in helping with depression screening, trying to get an activity planned with the UK program, and trying to organize KY psychiatrist from India.
