Welcome
to our New Residents
This
year, we are pleased to introduce you to our residents
first year residents.
Kevin
Glenn Bays, MD is a native of Ohio, but considers himself
a Kentuckian, since he spent most of life in Olive Hill.
After receiving a BS in Biology from Morehead State
University, he moved to Louisville and completed medical
school at U of L. Kevin is a big U of K basketball fan,
and hopes to catch as many games as possible this year.
Elvira
Drljevic, MD attended medical school at the University
of Sarajevo in Bosnia and came to the U.S. in 1996 due
to civil strife in her native country. She worked in
the U of L Department of Family and Community Medicine
before joining our residency. Currently, she is pursuing
her MPH in the CREST Program, which permits part-time
study during residency. Elvira is married to Hasim,
and they have two children.
Clayton
Scott Hall, DO received a BA in Social Work from the
University of Kentucky and worked in the area of substance
abuse treatment before entering medical school. He is
a graduate of the first class from the Pikeville College
School of Osteopathic Medicine. Clay has family roots
in both Lexington and Louisville.
Keller
Andrew Riede, Jr., MD earned a BA in Liberal Arts from
the University of Kentucky and worked for over 10 years
in marketing before returning to academia to pursue
medicine. He is a graduate of the U of L School of Medicine.
Keller is married, and he and his wife Theresa have
a lovely daughter, Sydney.
Sajida
Shadzad, MD completed medical school at Sindh Medical
College in Pakistan before moving to the U.S. She worked
as an extern in our psychiatry department before entering
residency. Sajida is married to Mohammad Shadzad, MD,
a physician in Danville, and together they have two
young children
Joyce
Adams Spurgeon, MD earned a BA in Psychology from Georgetown
College and went on to graduate from the University
of Louisville School of Medicine. Joyce is a newlywed
and lives in Southern Indiana where her husband, Todd,
practices law.
Anton
Subuh, MD is a native of Jakarta, Indonesia and a graduate
of Atma Jaya Catholic University. He gained both clinical
and research experience in addiction psychiatry at Baylor
College of Medicine in Houston before joining our residency.
Anton's wife, Anna Wanahita, is also a physician.
Yelena
Vanina, MD, a native of Kyrgyzstan in the former USSR,
completed medical school and residency training and
worked as a psychiatrist in her country before coming
to the U.S. Yelena was a research assistant at U of
L before joining our residency in April 2001. She is
currently pursuing her MPH in the CREST Program. Yelena
and her husband Moisey have a 9-year-old son.
Allen
Walker, DO, originally from Louisville, has returned
for his psychiatry residency training. Allen is a graduate
of the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Kirksville
College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. Allen is
engaged to Andrea Stigall, DO, a PGY-1 radiology resident
at U of K and a native of Danville, KY.
Another
newcomer to our program is Amjad Nisar, MD., who is
a native of Pakistan and a graduate of King Edward Medical
College. Amjad joins us as a PGY-4 resident and a first
year child and adolescent psychiatry fellow. He completed
his first three years of residency training at West
Virginia University in Charleston.
