KPMA
Awarded $7,500 in MIAW Grants During 2002
KPMA
gave out $7500 in MIAW grants to 16 advocate and consumer
groups this year. The Kentucky Department for Mental
Health matches KPMA's donation of $3500 and. KPMA administers
the program. Money was given from Mayfield and Henderson
in far West Kentucky to Harlan and Middlesboro in the
east, from NAMI in Northern Kentucky to Bowling Green
in Southern Kentucky as well as points in-between. In
the over 15 year history of the grant program the request
for funds has well exceeded the money available. All
grantees are required to file a report, and most add
their sincere thanks and give printed credit to the
KPMA in their materials.
Projects as always were varied. Several used their money
to buy books for their libraries. Three groups had a
contest for a tee shirt designed by consumers for their
MIAW activities. One sold the tee shirts, and two used
them for their Stamp Out Stigma Run Walks. Open houses,
Candlelight Vigils, newspaper ads, billboards and cable
TV ads were among the other uses of the grant money
