KPMA again sponsored the APA/APPA essay contest, "When Not to Keep a Secret." The winner, (see page 1 for the essay) was Miles Hopgood of the Lexington School. Second place went to Robert Barnell of St. Xavier High School in Louisville, and third place to Heidi Zimmerman of the Lexington School.

In Lexington, the Mental Health Advocates for Central Kentucky, (MHACK), continue to support and cooperate with member groups. Plans are underway for a table at the Woodland Arts and Craft Fair August 16 -17, 2003. NAMI Lexington will be selling greeting cards and arts and crafts. Mental Illness information will be available to fairgoers.

NAMI and MHACK are in the process of planning the annual Stamp Out Stigma Run/Walk, It will be held on September 6th at the Horse Park. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., and the walk/run at 9:00. The registration gala will be at the Blue Moon Saloon beginning at 7:00 p.m. on September 3rd.

Eastern State Hospital plans to host the Candlelight Vigil again this year as a kick-off to Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 5-11, 2003. Exhibits, entertainment, and food will be provided. October 6 is the tentative date. The vigil begins at 6:30.

MHACK will sponsor the depression screening at the William T. Young Library on the UK campus on National Depression Screening day, October 9. As in past years, this gives residents, medical students, and other mental health professional students an opportunity to participate in this special outreach.

The Morehead Coalition again hopes to sponsor a Faith Community Workshop, Depression Screening, and a book fair.

KPMA's budget is also constrained but the Council was able to budget $2000 for the project. However, KPMA member support is equally important to the success of these programs. We urge our members to participate in their local activities.

Because of budget constraints, KPMA will not be sponsoring the Barry Bingham Media Award this year. Council voted to hold the media competition every two
